AMOS E. DAVIS

AED School & Foundation was born from a vision given to the mother of Amos Ezekiel Davis. Amos has a twin sister (Ashley) Davis. They were born on June 25, 2005, prematurely at 24 weeks. Amos’ birthweight was 1 pound 9 ounces, while his sister's birthweight was 1 pound 7 ounces. The twins have experienced many health challenges, one of those challenges for Amos is  visual impairment/blindness.

The journey of AED School and Foundation started after Amos began formal education and his mother attended Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings to advocate for her son. She was  concerned about the lack of progress and the services the school was willing to offer Amos. Many of the members of his IEP team lacked confidence in Amos’s ability to comprehend and master various skill sets. However, Rasheda had faith and believed that he was capable of learning and making  progress intellectually and academically.

As a result of her frustration with the services the school was willing to offer Amos, Rasheda started to teach Amos vocabulary words and other skills she believed he was capable of learning. She also started journaling ideas to start a program for blind and disadvantaged children and families to provide better services in Mississippi, the state their family resided in at that time. She eventually put the  journal in a box, but the vision and desire to fulfill the vision never left her heart.

Shortly thereafter, the Davis family moved to the Nashville, TN area, Murfreesboro, to provide Amos with better services and an opportunity to develop at the School for the Blind. After two years at the School for the blind, the Davis family returned to
Mississippi. During the second year of their return to Mississippi, Rasheda was sorting through some boxes in the garage and found the journal she documented her vision in two years prior. She thought “NOW IS THE TIME TO PURSUE THE CALLING.”

She saw a need in her community to advocate for families and to provide a music program as well as a program for the visually impaired. There was also a need for life and social skills services for disadvantaged and disabled children and young adults.  She made the appropriate decisions to begin to implement the programs her community
lacked and needed for the targeted community this program will serve.

Rasheda decided in response to the need she saw in her community to advocate for families by means of providing a music program and services for those who are visually impaired as well as life and social skills services for disadvantaged children
and young adults.

This vision was birth from the heart of a mother who stands in the shoes of families who need additional services and resources to help their children’s lives become a little better.

Amos' parents, Terence, Sr and Rasheda, pastor a church in Southaven, MS.  He was raised in a Christian environment and loves the sound of hearing gospel music and singing. Rasheda recognized the love for music that Amos displayed while at home and during church services.  Amos was later introduced to the keyboard and seemed to take interest in learning to play.  However, because Amos is visually impaired/blind and developmentally delayed, finding a music teacher that can work with him has been a challenge.

The lack of services available, like a music teacher, to the visually impaired/blind is part of the reason why AED School & Foundation was birth. This organization is passionate about teaching and training disadvantaged children to play an instrument and/or sing in a Christian environment.

We are also determined to support disadvantaged children as we partner with local schools to assist with life skills, visual and social services. We welcome your help in spreading the news of this organization’s mission to schools, administrators, special education teachers and all educators, community centers, and families. Tell them about AED School and Foundation and how we can serve in their community and cities.
